Sacred Harp Singing

New Britain (better known as Amazing Grace) p.45 in the Sacred Harp

Sacred Harp Sings are a traditional way for people to get together and sing. Using the Sacred Harp shape-note tune book as a source, a sing allows all participants the opportunity to stand in the center of the "hollow square" and lead a tune. The Pittsburgh Sacred Harp Sings are now located at the East Liberty Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Highland Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15206.

Charles Anderson has been teaching and leading Sacred Harp sings in the Pittsburgh area for 20 years.

Watch this page for announcements about future sings.

This is a "workshop" style sing with a brief introduction and instruction period before the singing starts, so if you've never tried Sacred Harp singing before, this is a good place to start.

Stop in early and attend the Taizé service in the chapel at 7:00PM - lots of singing and silent meditation/prayer!

See the church web site for info on Taizé services

OTHER SINGS:

Monthly Morgantown Sacred Harp Shape Note Singing!
Thursday, December 10th from 7:15- 9:15 p.m.

Location:
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Morgantown
429 Warrick Street
Morgantown, WV 26506

Directions:
Take the Star City/WV University exit off of I-79 and go towards Morgantown.  You will go up the road until you come to the coliseum for WVU. Turn left at the stop light. (You will also see signs to a hospital, Patterson Drive)  Go on that road past the university and a small shopping area with a Kroger grocery store on the right.

At the light immediately after the shopping area go right (University Avenue). The hospital signs will now point ahead so donʼt follow them anymore. You will pass under the WVU people mover track.  Keep going straight under the track. Go a few blocks  -  the road turns some. As you are coming around a curve and down a slight hill, you will see Warrick Avenue going straight up a steep hill.  It will require a left turn off of the road you are on.  You should be able to see the A-frame building and the small sign near the building that says "UU Fellowship".
